The Good Samaritan

Once again, our second graders were being creative this past week and wanted to act out a Bible story. This time, they acted out the story of the Good Samaritan. Here are a few videos of their amazing acting skills. Enjoy!

Science Fair

Second and third graders did an awesome job on their science fair projects this year! At the science fair, students stood next to their projects while parents and visitors walked around to learn more about  different science concepts. Personally, I loved walking around and getting to listen to students explain their projects in detail while pointing out the visual representations of their projects. Here are some photos from the science fair. Enjoy!

St. Patrick's Day

Throughout the week of St. Patrick's Day, the silly classroom leprechaun visited our second and third graders and caused some trouble. Almost every morning during the week, the leprechaun left messy green footprints on student desks and small notes with a golden coin, applauding students that were doing an awesome job in the classroom. One day, the leprechaun even left footprints on my desk...but no gold coins! Instead, he threw the things on my desk everywhere and made quite a mess. Apparently I wasn't doing an awesome job in the classroom!? ;)

Our second and third graders were surprised on St. Patrick's Day with a breakfast of green eggs and ham, thanks to Miss Zimmerman and Mrs. Smith. Students loved eating this strange breakfast while listening to a fifth grader read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Lutheran School's Week

This last week we have enjoyed many fun days at school during Lutheran School's Week. We have had the opportunity to dress up in silly ways, get to know other classes in the school, and celebrate the end of the week at a pep assembly with the whole school. We began the week learning together with the 7th and 8th grade students. These older kids helped us study flashcards and they taught us some of the different names of bones in our bodies that they had been studying in science.

Later on in the week, second and third grade students took some time out of their busy day in the classroom and had some fun moments together playing games and interacting with one another. This was a fun time to get to know their classmates a little better while playing some exciting games together!

Throughout the week, the school raised money to go toward the Alaska Missions Trip by participating in a penny war. Each classroom was given a small bucket in which they collected their pennies. However, other classes throughout the school could put in silver coins or dollars which would deduct from the pennies in our bucket. The penny war became a bit heated...so much so that our second grade class took drastic action and placed a wall around our bucket with fierce guards protecting our precious pennies!

This entertaining week ended with a pep assembly where the whole school joined together to play some exciting games to wrap up the week. Both second and third graders were able to participate in these games in the gym. Second graders had fun bouncing ping pong balls into cups while the third graders tried to hike balls through hula hoops.

Overall, Lutheran School's Week was a huge success!

Spelling Bee

Last week we finally had our school spelling bee! We were very proud of our second grade students who participated in the spelling bee. Here are a few pictures of these amazing spellers, enjoy!

Presidential Unit

Last week we finally, after all those snow days, finished up our unit on United States presidents. Each student in second and third grade chose a United States president to research and write about. After doing the research, students began to write a report about their president. Students typed out this report as well as found pictures of their president online to print out along with their report. Both the report, along with the pictures, were glued onto a mini paper president.

After creating their mini presidents, students had the opportunity to present their president to the rest of the class so that everyone could learn interesting facts about the many men who have been president of the United States. Now these beautiful mini paper presidents are hanging in the hallways around the school so that students from all grades can enjoy and learn about these presidents of the United States.

Feel free to walk the hallways of the school and check out our mini paper presidents. Who knows, you may learning something new about one of the presidents of the United States!
